The new Tony Hawk: Ride skateboarding game will be coming with, what can only be described as, a big plastic skateboard. I know that it sounds stupid but this is no ordainary big plastic skateboard. This one comes packed with accelerometersand motion sensors to provide You, the skateboard game playing public, with the ultimate skating experience. Drop the board on the floor and jump on. The board has a slightly curved bottom to allow for tilting and turning which will then be copied by your on screen persona. Flip and grab tricks can be simulated using the sensors on the front, back and sides of the board. The game has varying difficulty levels to allow non sk8ers to enjoy the fun aswell.
It makes sense that in this time of motion sensors and giant novelty controllers that someone would update the slightly embaressing skateboard peripheral from yesteryear. A lot of people will complain that they don’t want another huge controller cluttering thier homes. Others will say they can’t be bothered with this and would rather sit and tap buttons. Some may even say that they would rather not break thier necks today, thank you very much. But I say “bring it on!!” and I am looking forward to playing with this. I can see people customising thier own board controllers and then meeting up with friends for massive sk8ing parties just like the guitar hero/ rockband phenomena.
