It’s time for me to rock out and try Guitar Hero Metallica. Another new title by Activision. I’ve tried some of the previous titles and now it’s time to see what rock star potential I really have, if any. This new title brings you all the heavy metal songs you can muster and play until your heart’s content. And now for the first time you can get a taste of what it’s like to be a part of Metallica, in what I call the loudest and hardcore Guitar Hero yet. For 25 years this band has lived and rocked harder than anyone else. This game provides you with the full band experience; vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar and drums. Depends how friendly you are with your neighbours I guess. Included in this game are acts from Queen, Foo Fighters, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead and System of a Down. I personally only know a few of the bands as I’m not very keen on this kind of music, but I know those of you that are will love this game.
You can become a metal legend in either single instrument or you can opt for band career game mode playing as the band to a soundtrack of their greatest hits while rocking with over 20 additional artists, of whom I only knew a few. The special effects were as great as ever and they’ve even given you extra video to check out as well which was good.
If attempting to best classic metal anthems such as ‘Enter Sandman’, ‘Battery’, ‘One’ and ‘Master of Puppets’ on Expert is not good enough for you then prepare to be seduced by a jibbering wreck by the all new Expert + difficulty level on drums. One word springs to mind. Difficult!. Attach a second bass pedal compatible with the Guitar Hero World Tour drum kit controller and you can attempt to drum like Lars with the double bass drum note track which offers the authentic Metallica experience with a note-for-note translation of many tracks appearing in the game.
I’ve played most of the Guitar Hero titles and I still prefer Rock Band. To me, rock band seems a lot easier. So with my guitar I started off playing some of the songs. To be honest I am still a beginner when it comes to playing the guitar. So for beginners, this is definitely not the title to start out with. This game will appeal to anyone that loves heavy metal rock style music as it has all the old classics in there. Personally I didn’t like it. It maybe due to the fact that I don’t like hardcore music, so I may be at a slight disadvantage already. Secondly for me, the music went so incredibly fast and that was in ‘Easy Mode‘. My poor fingers were tapping away like had gone slightly crazy. I found it really difficult, but that’s not to say it’s not a great game, because it is. You just have to like the music to start with and if you don’t know how the tune goes, then you’re completely lost forever. I think I knew a few tunes and there were plenty to choose from. I might just have to keep going to unlock some of the songs I do know.
If you do nail a song, then you can test your Metaliica know-how by replaying the song with the Metalli-facts trivia pop-up mode; unlock venues, songs, commentary, videos and behind-the-scene footage; plus Guitar Hero Metallica cranks all them good features, game play and fun of Guitar Hero World Tour to a new level with updates to the Music Studio featuring samples from James Hettfield’s ESP Truckster guitar, GHTunes, and the Rock Star Creator. The Online game modes allow competing gamers to see who tops the charts in Face-Off, Prop Face-Off, eight- player ‘Battle of the Bands’ and Battle Mode as well as online Quick play mode that allows up to four gamers to shred together regardless of physical location.
If you love heavy metal rock style music, then this is the game for you.
