Last night I had the opportunity to head down to the studio and take part in the 1 v 100 launch event in London. I wasn’t sure what to expect seeing as I had never played the game. The show went out live last night and we all headed to our seats.
Each of us had an Xbox 360 in front of us and tv monitor and we played against each other to find out who would be the ultimate ‘one’ to win. We were asked a series of multiple choice questions. If you got one question wrong you were eliminated from the game. I was quite nervous as it was all being filmed, but it gave me a first timer’s insight into the game. Players can have one of three roles in the game.
The One – This player is competing against everyone else in The Mob
The Mob – 99 players competing against The One
The Crowd – Playing for fun and improved rankings though can still win smaller prizes.
Unfortunately I didn’t win anything, but I watched as a few won some Xbox’s and I think someone won a holiday to Ibiza. It’s a brilliant game and one worth trying out on Xbox Live. It was a two hour live game show in which each episode features live gameplay between players, and multiple rounds. During the questions, after the timer appears and before it runs out, The One can press Y to use a Help, which then provides The One with an answer to the question.
I suppose thinking about it now it reminded me of ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’, with the opportunity to ask the crowd for help. A selection of multiple choice questions based on general knowledge. Some of the questions were easy, but there were a few questions there that I couldn’t be a hundred percent sure whether they were correct or not.
The show was hosted live by Pat Sharp. If you cast your minds back he used to do ‘Fun House’ in the 1990’s. Everything was filmed, but I not sure what bits are going to be shown. It was a really great experience, and it was a lot of fun. Everyone came away with Xbox 360 goodie bags which had 800 Microsoft points inside. We all enjoyed the open bar and it was a great chance to mingle with other professionals from the video games industry.
The 1 v 100 is available exclusively on Xbox 360 and is only available to Xbox Live subscribers.
