Buzz! Junior: Monster Rumble (PS3)

Posted by GG Goblin On September - 14 - 2009

Get the little ones gathered around the PS3, as its time for some monster fun in this latest Buzz! Junior game to hit the Playstation Store.

The third entry in the Buzz! Junior series to hit the PS3, this game was developed by the Dundee-Based Cohort Studios. In this game, players take on the role of one of four monsters that have escaped from their creator, the mad scientist. The monsters want to prove who is the best, and decide to do so by competing in mini games. There are five mini games which can be played using either the standard controller, or the Buzz! game pads.

The five games included are…
All Wrapped Up – In this game the player has to unwrap a mummy. This is accomplished by hitting the colour button that corresponds with the colour of bandages.
Musical Chairs – When the music stops, jump onto a chair by hitting the colour for the chair you have chosen.
Treasure Hunt – This game only uses one button. The player must jump from island to island in the swamp, gathering treasure as he goes. If another monster lands on him, the player will fall into the swamp.
Ghoulish Golf - Another game that uses only one button. As with most games, the player chooses the power and then the accuracy of the shot by timing their button presses.
Boo! – Work your way through the garden, removing the nasties that are hiding there. Simply press the coloured button that corresponds to the colour of the beast that you want to hit. Don’t hit the donkeys though!

Buzz! Junior: Monster Rumble is a party game aimed at the younger audience. In that respect it succeeds on all levels. The gameplay is simple and quick, the visuals are bright and colourful and the sounds are disturbing enough to entertain most youngsters. It should be pointed out that the game is best played with the Buzz! game pads though. Using the standard controller makes the game a lot harder, with the colours assigned to R2, R1, triangle and cross, and L1 counting as the big red button. This is perhaps too much so for the smaller children.

The game can be played by up to four people, with AI controlling any monsters without a player. The AI is set very low, making the game no challenge to adults, but this is ideal for small children. There are even trophies to be obtained, which is guaranteed to please the kids.

For its target audience, this is a great game that will keep the little monsters entertained over and over again. Buzz! Junior: Monster Rumble is available on the Playstation Store for £3.99.
