iLikeCereal!! Review (iPhone)

Posted by GG Goblin On December - 17 - 2009

I like toast. Toast and marmite. Whenever I have cereal, I just want to play with it.

iLikeCereal!! is an entertainment app for the iphone and ipod touch, developed by Marroni Electronic Entertainment and NightIrion. This means that it serves no purpose other than to entertain you, in the most abstract of ways. It is basically a milk and cereal simulator. You can choose from the various different types of cereal that you want to float in your milk and even different colours. The colour of the cereal directly affects the milks colour, just like real life.

You can then play with your cereal to your hearts content. The cereal floats in the milk in a realistic fashion, and you can flick the little pieces of cereal around the bowl for an epic funtime. Change the thickness of the milk and then marvel at the way this affects the cereal. You can even shake or twist the iphone and watch as all sorts of chaos breaks out in your cereal bowl.

This is a tough one to review. There are no enemies to overcome, no puzzles to solve and no score to, well score. This is an entertainment app and as such it is there just to entertain, waste a few moments with and to impress your friends. I have not really used many of these kind of apps, so I will have to draw on the experience of the few I have. To be honest, iLikeCereal!! holds up quite well. The physics work well and it sports some nice background tunes to build the mood. There is something mesmerising about playing with assorted cereal in a bowl of milk.

No small part of my enjoyment of this app is thanks to the tongue in cheek attitude of the developers. You get the impression that they know that this app has the depth of a bowl of cereal, and is best enjoyed when played with for around a minute at a time. But that doesn’t bother them. Cereal in milk, that’s what it is and that’s that.

There are a huge number of time wasting entertainment apps available on iTunes, and most of them are complete rubbish. iLikeCereal!! is certainly one of the better ones out there, and you might as well buy this one, knowing what it is, rather than an unknown one and be disappointed.

iLikeCereal!! is fun and entertaining, albeit in short bursts. Don’t expect it to hold your attention for long periods. Its a bit pricey for its limited scope, but it makes me laugh every time I look at it.

iLikeCereal!! is available on the iTunes app store here for £1.19

  3. CJay Said,

Codes for the Girl Gamers ‘UK’, yet the codes only work on the US app store – nicely done…

  4. GG Goblin Said,

Apple are not keen on handing out UK codes. It is easy enough to set up a US account. Thanks for the codes Nick and your site is as funny as your earlier press release.

  5. Nick Marroni Said,

Hey. I didn’t realize that promo codes are only good for the U.S. store. My apologies and I agree that it’s really dumb that you can’t use them in any region App Store. Hopefully, resourceful ones will be able to make use of them or, at least, pass them on to a friend or American cousin. Thanks.
