Are you ready to get busy with the Dizzy?
In this small but wonderfully-formed title from Dundee-based developers Dynamo Games, cheery and colourful cartoon drops rain from the sky. Four colour-coded buckets sit at the bottom of the screen, and it is your task to make sure the Dizzy Drops are collected in the right coloured container. You use your finger to slide a bucket to its intended place, where it swaps position with the one it replaces. If a drop falls into a bucket of the wrong colour, you’ll lose a life.
Sound simple? Yep. Sound easy? Don’t bet on it!
As the game’s levels progress, the speed with which the drops fall gets faster, clouds descend obscuring part of the screen, and the number of drops you have to catch at the same time increases. By around the seventh level, where you often have to nimbly switch buckets to catch three drops at once, you realise why Dizzy Drops is such an apt name.
As well as the falling drops, bonus items appear, which you have to tap to benefit from. These include bonus point stars, clocks which slow time, extra life hearts, and bombs which you have to touch to defuse before they hit the ground.
As with games like Doodle Jump and Flight Control, trying to top your previous score on Dizzy Drops (and increase your standing on the global leaderboard, if you have an internet connection) is addictive. You’ll find yourself returning to this title again and again and it has that ‘just one more go’ quality which makes games like this so much fun.
A bonus mode – similar to the classic boardgame Mastermind – sees you trying to work out what colours a set of identical falling drops are, but this is a diversion compared to the main mode, which will give your fingers a fast and furious workout in what is a fun and good-value game.
