Do you need a new Wii racing wheel? Maybe this is the one for you.
When I play Mario Kart Wii, I go old school and use the controller sideways. I find this easier and it takes me back to my youth, playing the original Super Mario Kart. But trends change and now everyone seems to be racing around using a wheel instead. There are a fair few out there, all of which the player can slot their Wiimote into, but they are not the most exciting peripheral in the world. Maybe I should say that they weren’t the most exciting. Here comes the Nerf Racing Wheel.
Coming with a choice of different coloured trim, the Nerf wheel is covered in the lovely foam for which Nerf are known. Compared to other Wii racing wheels, this makes the Nerf wheel very comfortable to use over extended periods. The wheel is mostly dimpled to allow for a good grip during those long, sweaty racing sessions. Slightly raised to the left and right of the embedded Wiimote, the wheel sits snugly into the palm of the hands. There are even smooth sections of the wheel to indicate where the thumbs should be positioned.
The Wiimote slots easily into the middle of the wheel, and is held firmly. There is a hole at one end for the sensor and at the other end for the strap. There is a trigger button underneath that performs its job well and can be easily reached.
Being slightly more expensive than the standard wheels that can be found, the Nerf wheel may seem like an extravagance. But, for people out there who take their Wii racing seriously and are in the market for a new wheel, there is no doubt in my mind that the Nerf wheel is the best available.
The Nerf wheel is made by PDP and is available in the UK from Argos for £9.99.
