Bandai Hobby Centre

Posted by TurtleGirl On April - 19 - 2010

GGUK love anything Japanese related within the gaming industry. We are fascinated by Japanese culture and always curious to learn and understand from all the various types of culture which includes anything from gaming to anime.

This is the Bandai Hobby Centre in is the capital city of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Here they hold a selection of events that surround anime to Gundam. They have a wide variety of models and displays which feature Gundam history past and present. Walking through the lobby you are welcomed by a huge Gundam figure. There are many types of Gundam figures on display big and small.

They’ve even got a Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind minature model which is really cute. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind also known as Kaze no Tani no Naushika  is a 1984 post-apocalyptic Japanese anime film, written and directed  by Hayao Miyazaki, based on his manga of the same name. This model is amazing. Just look at the fine detail.

Another character that caught my eye while reading this article was Sergeant Keroro, released in English as Sgt. Frog, this is a manga series by Mine Yoshizaki. It was later serialized into a TV anime series directed by Junichi Sato. Both the anime and manga are comedies that follow the attempts of a platoon of frog-like alien invaders to conquer Earth. Sergeant Keroro, the titular character, is the leader of the platoon, but is at the mercy of a human family of three after he is captured while trying to hide in one of the family member’s bedrooms. In both the manga and anime, Keroro is forced to do meaningless chores and errands for the family after his army abandons his platoon on Earth.

The whole centre is dedicated to plastic models and car classics and robots from yesteryear. Unfortunately I don’t know all of the Gundam figure names, but it’s just interesting to see all these wonderful creations. Japan do things in such an elegant way, I think they are amazing. I always come away learning more and more.
