Weekly XBL Update

Posted by Tambo On April - 30 - 2010

This week seems a bit quiet in ole XBL-town and I suspect it’s because we all need a moment to pause, compose ourselves, order in extra food and drink supplies and ready our gaming souls for some amazing titles coming out for the Xbox in May.

With no new games in the arcade this week, you can save some serious MPs…. I predict they’ll be plenty of opportunity to spend them later this month!

Elsewhere to buy:

SHReK the Third (£14.99)

I don’t generally recommend games based on movies… and I’m not about to start now. Though The SHReK films are a nice form of family entertainment during Christmas when you’re so full of mince pies that you can’t move to change over the TV channel, even by their standards, the third installment was predictable and not really that funny, yet it still looked great.

You don’t quite get the same level of detail and beauty of the film but often it does feel like you’re playing the movie which a younger audience will enjoy, even if by other gaming standards, the animation is poor. Nothing about the game play has really improved from the first SHReK game – you still run around collecting stuff, rapidly tapping your buttons in easy fights, solving puzzles etc, this time in an attempt to find an heir to the throne of Far Far Away and save the day. There is some variety in the characters that you can play, but overall it’s a little bit dull and will leave you feeling empty of Fairyland magic.

There are some Mega Game Add-Ons this week:

Mega Man 10
Endless Attack
– 240MP

For those of you who got a piece of the ‘blast from the past’ action last week, you can now test your skills on a stage that never ends! The aim is simply to get as far as you can and see your gamer tag at the top of the leader board – Note, though GGUK recommend this Add-On, we cannot be held responsible if you are late for work, burn your dinner, forget to turn up for your own wedding etc by playing this game for hours on end!

Special Stage 2 – 80MP a new time attack to test your skills and a different boss to take on at the end.

Special Stage 3 – 80MP a new time attack to…. Oh, I’m sure you can guess the rest!

There are also some lovely Mega Man Gamer Pictures and themes available this week if you really are desperate to spend some MPs!

Dante’s Inferno
Trails of St. Lucia
– 800MP

For those of you who have never heard of, or played God of War and are still enjoying playing Dante (we know you’re out there), this Add-On introduces the new playable character of St Lucia (see more info from GGUK here). After what seems like an age, waiting for this Add-On, It offers online Co-Op play making slaughtering countess big breasted enemies way more fun! Also included is a Trial Creation tool that lets you custom your own challenges and upload them online (REGISTRATION WITH EA ONLINE REQUIRED). Make sure you visit the Avatar Items area this week for all your templar clothing needs.

Just Cause 2
Black Market Ariel Pack
– 160MP

Okay, deep breath…… with this Add-On you get a F-33 DragonFly Jet Fighter with quad mounted miniguns and double missile launchers, Dual Parachute Thrusters that allow you to be in the air longer when mounted to the parachute rig and a Multi Lock Missile Launcher which allows you to lock on and home in on up to four targets. Missiles, miniguns and more gravity defying fun! Bargain of the week.

LIPS – the Xbox singing experience, has another track this week for 160MP
“Going back to Cali” by LL Cool J

Guitar Hero 5 has three new awesome Black Sabbath tracks, all of which are 160MP each or can be bought as a Track Pack for 440MP:
“After Forever” by Black Sabbath
“Into the Void” by Black Sabbath
“Sweat Leaf” by Black Sabbath

DJ Hero is offering some tricky turntable challenges with this Domination Pack for 640MP:
“Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony” by Wolfgang Gartner
“Red Mist VIP” by Danny Byrd
“Sandstorm” by Darude VS “Higher State of Consciousness” by Josh Wink.

Finally, Indie Games and there’s a couple of addictive titles worth checking out.

Inferno Ball – 80MP

It’s Pong but not as we know it. Take a trip down memory lane but be prepared to have your reflexes tested against the computer or friends online as the four difficulty level range from easy to Insane! A fiery, exploding twist on a classic fave.

Bizzy Bee – 80MP

As spring has sprung these past two weeks, I thought I’d include this charming little game – a one or two player game where you race to collect pollen from fields of flowers in the shortest possible time. Perfect for a simple chilled out sunny spring time gaming session.

bizzy bee

That’s all for this week. A short and sweet update that will keep thumbs busy whilst we all eagerly anticipate some stunning and exciting games (Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands) coming soon on Xbox in May!
