I love Turtles, so I was delighted to play ‘Save The Turtles’ on DSiWare. The poor Sea Turtles are in serious danger and they need your help. All sorts of perils and dangers await these cute creatures. It’s down to you to make sure they make it to the ocean. Players must keep watch over the turtles on the beach and try to preserve the species.
There are four game modes to keep you entertained and the levels are based on a sunny beach. The objective of this game is to save as many turtles as possible from the dangers they face from the moment of their birth, up until they reach the safety of the ocean. In order to save them, a wave must rise and drag them into the water. It turns out that the tide reacts to turtles of the same species lined up in groups of three or more. Your task consists in helping these cute turtles form enough match ups before they run out of time.
However, the beach is a danger zone and is full of hazards and obstacles, so you have to really think carefully before issuing any orders to the turtles. The game is relatively simple as you just tap the turtle and drag it to the postion on the beach where you wish for it to move. That spot must be free and your tiny turtles must be able to reach it with just one change of direction. Align one or more sets of three turtles of the same species in order to call a wave. Once the wave takes them away, they are safe and that makes me a very happy turtlegirl. The game is simple and easy to follow, so most gamers will get a lot of enjoyment out of this title.
Throughout the game you may encounter some power ups or other collectibles on the beach. In order to pick them up, a turtle must do it for you, so you’ll need to move the turtle to the spot on the beach where the collectible stands.
You also have to watch out for pesky seagulls who want to eat your little turtles as they fly in the sky, waiting for their next feed. The beach can also get very hot from the heat of the sun, which means only one thing…toasted turtles. That’s right, your turtles could soon be barbequed and you must keep them cool. Tapping on the ocean allows you to carry some water that can be thrown over the toasted shells. So keep an eye out for them steaming in the sunlight.
Save the Turtles is a fun game, but can get a bit tiresome in places, repeating the same actions over and over again. I think this game maybe ideal for the younger gamer as it provides and encourages children to look after our friends of the ocean. The game also gives some educational value, which gives insight into the different species of sea Turtles. Green turtles being my firm favourite.
It’s a cute little game, with a nice selection of brightly coloured graphics. For only 500 DsiWare points I believe it gives gamers good value for money. Help the turtles to survive the hardest journey of their life to the deep blue ocean.
