PSN STORE UPDATE

Posted by Bazaboy On July - 21 - 2010

This weeks PSN Store update will be a bit shorter than usual, simply because there was not much added  either in the form of games or in content for games. Never mind though, less time writing this up means more time playing games. The past week games-wise is more of the same from the previous week, plenty of online Red Dead Redemption mixed with getting frustrated at Need For Speed Shift which decided on numerous occasions to crash my system at the same point as i tried to complete a series of races. Normally I wouldn’t bother and I would just skip it and move onto something else. But the Trophy Collector in me reared his head. This set of races is what is stopping me from earning the coveted Platinum Trophy for the title, but I shall not give up.

Before the update, I and a few friends have noticed that in the coming months up until Christmas there are a huge number of great looking games being released and not enough funds to purchase them all. What is a gamer to do? Sell our bodies for scientific research maybe ? Anyway enough of this nonsense and onto the store update, here is what is on offer this week.

DEATHSPANK £9.99/€12.99

Deathspank is the name of the hero in this action role playing game which, as you can maybe guess from the title of the game, has it’s tongue firmly planted in cheek. You know the kind of gameplay where you guide your character around the game world, hacking and slashing bad guys, but with role playing game elements thrown in, such as picking up missions, buying/upgrading your weapons and talking with NPC’s. The conversations are, of course, full of humour and amusing characters. The game play is fun and the RPG elements are fun enough to appeal to both fans of hack and slash games or role play genres. If that is not enough, then surely the name alone is enough to get you interested? I mean, lets be honest, when you hear of a game called Deathspank, are you not at least a little intrigued?

BLUR MULTIPLAYER DEMO FREE DOWNLOAD

The Blur demo is actually quite a substantial chunk of game which is, if you do not know, an arcade style racer with as much focus on destruction as on the racing action. Think Wipeout with real life cars. You know the kind of thing, pick ups, power ups and weapons. This makes for some fun and frantic racing and destructive action. And for a demo this offers up quite a decent chunk of play; two game modes, six of the games tracks along with twelve of the games cars. So if you are interested in this game, but have yet to give it a go or unsure, now is the perfect time to try it. The demo is free to download.

TRINE NEW LEVEL PACK PATH TO NEW DAWN £0.79/€0.99

Trine was released in the PSN store last year and is a side scrolling physics based platform game with three characters, each with their own skills. The player is able to switch from one to the other mid level, depending on which skills are needed to solve the puzzles. Now, out of no where, new content is being added in the shape of a new level. For such a low price, you can not really complain as it expands the life span of the game, if only for an hour or so.

DEATH TRACK RESURRECTION HARI 108 £0.79/€0.99

The post apocalyptic racer which I reviewed for the site not so long ago is an arcade racer involving cars, heavy weapons and abandoned cites. If only it was not for the questionable car handling. Anyway, if you want the fastest most deadly and resilient vehicle on the go, then this cheap little addition is for you, adding said new vehicle to the games vehicular line up.

ROCK BAND

Perfect Future Tense by Sweet Billy Pilgrim £0.99/€1.49
Get Out by The Vines £0.99/€1.49
He’s A Rocker by The Vines £0.99/€1.49

Afterlife £1.59/€1.99
Almost Easy £1.59/€1.99
Scream £1.59/€1.99

Like the games and content, this weeks video content is just as slim. All we get is Episode 015 of FirstPlay for the price of £0.99/€1.20.

Wrapping things up is a small selection of avatars which includes the following…

Gangsta Rapper Avatar £0.20/€0.25
