PSN Store Update

Posted by Bazaboy On September - 13 - 2010

Time for another weekly PSN Store update. It’s not quite as big an update as the last couple of weeks, but it brings with it a couple of games I have been looking forward to playing, along with a handful of new content for exsisting games and of course the usual music game updates, videos and shiny things for sprucing up your system.

As for what I have been playing this week, along with my usual fix of both online favourites Red Dead Redemption and Uncharted 2, I played through the PSN title Shank which was recently released. You can find the GGUK review of it here on the site now. I even managed to fit in a little Modern Warfare 2 with a few friends – a game I have not played in months – and soon remembered just how much fun it is, screaming around those maps and blowing stuff up. But enough of this chatter, lets get onto what you are all here for. What’s in the store this week:

WORMS 2: ARMAGEDDON FREE TRIAL AND £11.99/€14.99 TO UNLOCK FULL GAME

Worms 2: Armageddon is a game I have been waiting patiently for. Having been out for some time on the X-Box as a timed exclusive, we Playstation owners have had to make do with the original worms game and, although it is a lot of fun, it was let down by one major flaw – the online multiplayer, which is, as most worms players know, the big draw to these games. The four player battles, in the Playstation version of the original, were there, but boy was it buggy. You would think you were getting into a game, only to have either the game freeze up or worse still your console itself. It was a 50/50 chance as to whether your game started or not. But now, after a good bit of time, Team17 bring Worms 2: Armageddon to the PSN. It’s more of the tried and tested Worms madness, both single player and a multiplayer mode that actually works. If you have not played Worms before, then buy it and play it now, you will not regret it.

TOP GUN £7.99/€9.99

Top Gun is a game based on a film that, if you are around the same age as me, you will know and love. The story follows that of the film pretty well. The gameplay is that of an arcade fighter plane game, with the player being assigned various targets which you must then take out. It’s looking very much like this one is going to be a high speed, action packed, arcade shooter, which is sure to please the fans of the film like myself. I will not go into much more detail, as there is a review incoming here on the site, so keep your eyes open for that. But I am guessing that it’s going to be full of tough talking american pilots and hopefully have a cheesy eighties soundtrack. I can not lie and say I would be disappointed if it didn’t.

QUANTUM THEORY DEMO FREE DOWNLOAD

Quantum Theory is a game I do not know much about. In fact, the first I heard of it was when I saw the demo on this list. But it appears to be a third person shooter with a sci-fi or maybe fantasy edge to it. The hero, who seems to be a steroid pumped muscular man mountain, teamed up, of course, with the small attractive female character. They are tasked with taking out bad guys, who are either aliens or monsters from what I can see on searching for details of the game. It’s what you would expect from the ever growing stable of third person shooters on the market, with the now obligatory run and gun gameplay or slide into cover and play the smart game.

MAFIA II JIMMY’S VENDETTA £6.29/€7.99

The second chunk of DLC to hit the Playstation store in only the couple of weeks that it has been on release. This time players take control of Jimmy, once an ally to Empire Bays mob, he has now become on of its greatest enemies. Jimmy can take out his anger on more or less everyone, including the Italians and the Irish along with anyone else who may get in his way. The pack gives the player a host of new missions making up the story. Shootouts, assassinations and of course high speed car chases all set in the free roaming game city of Empire Bay. Perfect for those who have already finished up with the games main story, the first DLC pack and are still hungry for a little more mobster action.

DRAGON AGE ORIGINS WITCH HUNT £5.49/€6.99

Dragon Age Origins has definitely been shown the love by it’s developers. An epic game to begin with, but the plethora of content that has been released over the months for the title keep the game fresh. This week brings with it yet another bite size chunk of additional content for the Role Playing adventure. This time the star of the story is Morrigan, what she did and where she mysteriously disappeared to at the end of the main story line of the game. Well now, this is the chance that fans of the game have been waiting on to find exactly what she got up to.

TRANSFORMERS WAR FOR CYBERTRON CHARACTERS AND MAPS PACK 2 £7.99/€9.99

Following up from a week or so back with the release of the first character and map pack for Transformers comes the second pack, which adds both a further five maps for use in the games multiplayer and survival modes, along with two new transformers which can also be used by players in the Transformer creation mode. The first three new maps availble are especially for multiplayer fun and are called Horizon, Sector and Metropolis. The other two are for survival mode with Static seeing the player fight off waves of Autobots, or Pulse which has the player fighting off waves of Decepticons. Along with the new maps Zeta Prime and Dead End are the two new transformers that have been added, which can be used as they comes or used in the character creation feature, giving players of the game a bit more variety when it comes to the multiplayer side of things.

PLANET MINIGOLF CASTLE RUINS£1.59/€1.99

Playstation Networks minigolf game with many a crazy hole and golfer is thrown a substantial chunk of content this week with the Castle Ruins Pack – thirty six new holes set over four new courses on Stronghold Island located in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Funnily enough the courses are set around the ruins of an old Stronghold, so that’s where they got the name of the island and the pack. Along with the new courses and location, there are also three new locations to be used in the course editor with a huge selection of suitable items for use in editor mode for player to create all new holes and courses.

BUZZ! QUIZ TV PUZZLE PACK £3.99/€4.99

After a little break from content for Buzz! quiz, appearing this week is a new pack of questions, five hundred of them to be precise. This time the pack does not really focus on one subject but general knowledge. However all the questions present in the pack are cryptic in nature, so not only do you need to know the answer to those questions, you need to have your brain in the right gear. Full concentration needed for this one.

Not only is it great fun to play, but it’s guaranteed to make you laugh. I will maybe play a bit more Gran Turismo PSP to fuel my need for speed aswell. So whatever you may be playing or doing this week, have fun and happy gaming.
