GamesAid members are now voting for the charities that they wish to support. Our favorite charity, SpecialEffect, has been nominated.
GamesAid, a UK Games Industry Charity, raises money through various industry events and such, and then distributes these funds amongst worthy causes. The voting has just started to choose the charities and, from the eight that have been nominated, five will be successful. GamesAid members each have one vote and can make their selection from within the members area at www.GamesAid.org. If you work within the games industry and are not yet a member, signing up is easy and can be done on the site.
The voting is especially exciting for us at GGUK, as our favorite charity, SpecialEffect, is one of the eight that have been nominated. SpecialEffect is a wonderful charity that is dedicated to helping young people with disabilities enjoy video games. They help these young people in the following ways:
- By adapting, developing and modifying cutting edge technology – for example eye-controlled technology, a special strength of SpecialEffect.
- By supporting hospitals, hospices, special schools, etc. in finding the right leisure technology for those young people who need it most, when they need it most.
- By loaning specialised leisure technology to young people who have a sudden serious injury or illness.
All of the nominated charities are worthy causes. But we are keeping our fingers crossed that, come the close of voting on Friday 15th October, SpecialEffect have enough votes to get them the support of GamesAid.
