Aqua Pearls

Posted by GG Goblin On November - 8 - 2010

Aqua Pearls is a concept that we have seen before. In this particular instance, different coloured pearls move along a track towards a clam. The player is positioned in the centre of the screen, with the pearl tracks generally circling the player. The objective is simple, the player launches coloured pearls at the string in an attempt to get three or more of the same colour, thus removing the pearls and slowing their approach.

Yep, told you we have seen it before. But have we seen it done this well? Aqua Pearls from G5 Entertainment both looks and sounds stunning. A lot of effort has gone into the polish of this game, raising it above the standard iPhone fare. But that is not all that the game has to offer.

There are four modes in total for the player to enjoy. The first two are fairly straight forward. Adventure mode allows the player to work through various levels in a sort of ongoing story, with increasing difficulty of course. Endless mode just plays forever, using the levels that have been unlocked in Adventure mode.

Then there is the puzzle mode, which offers something new as the player only has a fixed number of pearls with which to prevent this clam attack. The player will have to take their time and plan their shots very carefully in order to get far. The final mode is Strategy mode which challenges the player to free the little fishies trapped in bubbles by matching three pearls of the same colour under the bubble. I am not saying that it makes sense, but that doesn’t stop it from being fun and adding more content to the game.

Which is another thing that makes this game really enjoyable and good value for money. We may have all seen this style of game before. But if we enjoyed it then there is nothing wrong with more of the same. And in Aqua Pearl we actually get quite a lot, with four different game modes that will keep the player going for a nice long while. The difficulty of the game may well begin very low, but it ramps up quite quickly and will offer even the most accomplished gamer a decent challenge.

Aqua Pearls has taken a style of game and polished it to the point that it could really be no better. It offers that quick hit style gameplay that is best suited to the Apple mobile device, whilst still offering a depth of gameplay that will keep the player entertained for extended gaming periods.

Aqua Pearls is available from the App Store for just £1.79
