Sifteo Cubes are the ‘New’ Kids on the Block
While gamers can look forward to the Nintendo 3DS coming soon, enjoyed playing Kinect and Playstation Move over the festive period, spare a thought for the new kids on the block.
These are Sifteo blocks and they bring a new meaning to the word ‘gaming’. These were recently seen at CES and they’re a little bit different from the norm. These 1.5 inch blocks can communicate through a Wi-fi connection and bring gaming to their little cute screens. The blocks can be physically moved around and connect together in order to play a game and their 128 pixel display can also words.
Inside each of these small cubes is a 32-bit ARM microprocessor, powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery. A small accelerometer is inside each of the blocks and that can determine their position, which you’ve got to admit is pretty fancy. Sifteo is currently in an early beta testing period, but the company plans to release the product in the Fall. Priced at $150, starter kits will come with three Sifteo blocks, a charging dock and AC adaptor, and a USB wireless link for your Mac or PC.
