A 15 year old high school student from Yokohama is being held under the juvenile law for posting a message on the internet.
It doesn’t sound too bad so far, as posting messages is a daily theme for most people, but he threatned to launch a random attack in the busy streets of Shinjuku district of Tokyo with the use of his Nintendo DS. The boy used Nintendo’s handheld system to post a message on the bulletin board with the following message ‘”I’ll launch a random attack near the entrance of the expressway bus terminal near Shinjuku Station at 9 p.m. on Feb. 11. If you don’t want to die, don’t participate in the game,”. This message was then intercepted and forced the MPD and bus operators to be on high alert. The message had been seen by 500 people on the internet who gathered at the scene. MPD investigators identified the game console by it’s IP address, where the boy was spotted at an electric appliance shop in Kawasaki. The boy had a ticket on an Osaka bound night bus which led investigators to suspect that his intention was to flee Osaka after seeing how the public’s reactions to his threat.
The message also consisted of threats of attacking three people, with one of them ramming his car into pedestrians and stabbing two other people. The MPD suspects that the boy was trying to imitate the 2008 random attack in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, which left seven people dead and 10 others injured, in writing the message.
