This week, GGUK is awash with more Resi Evil news coming out of Capcom than blood spurting from a severed zombie’s head and the announced details regarding future Resident Evil titles are sure to leave fans of the zombie survival horror series with chills!
Coming soon (early June) is the Nintendo 3DS title Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, a combination of the two mercenaries min-games from RE4 and RE5 – yep, you can play as Chris in an RE4 churchyard environment or HUNK in an African street – very cool! Unlike other RE titles, it will have a first person viewpoint (though you can change to the familiar over-the-shoulder perspective) plus you can move and shoot at the same time – alrighty! You can change your weapon via the touchscreen so it should feel more fluid than the previous Mercenaries games inventory screens and there’s going to be online co-op. It looks stunning in 3D and we can’t wait!
The other good news is that we now know that Mercenaries will feature a snippet of the horror to come with a demo of Resident Evil: Revelations and will let you play as the popular Jill Valentine – one of the full game’s characters as she explore the bowels of an ocean liner, seeking out creatures lurking in the dark. More info is expected about Revelations at this year’s E3 and GGUK will bring you more info hot off the E3 press.
We’re also giddy with excitement, as more details about Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City have been released. Set in the Resident Evil universe and featuring iconic RE landmarks like the Racoon City Police Department, Operation Racoon City takes place between the events in RE2 and RE3 and will completely turn the franchise on its head as you get to play from the perspective of an evil Umbrella Security Services Soldier, out to eradicate all traces of the T-Virus outbreak and those associated with it, including blond hero of RE2, rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy. It’s not going to be easy though as you’ll have to battle against the U.S. Government as they step in with their own Special Ops forces to try and uncover evidence of the Umbrella Corporation’s shady work plus there’s the usual hoard of zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons to contend with – a heady mix that should make this third person team based shooter a thrilling riot! Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City is due for release in this coming winter on Xbox360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Before then though, this autumn, it’s time to party as to coincide with the original RE’s 15th anniversary, fans can celebrate the past as well as the future of the franchise as Capcom make available to download (Xbox360 and PlayStation 3 with support for achievements/trophies), two sparkling HD releases. Resident Evil: Code Veronica is set after the events in RE2 and features Claire Redfield as she still searches for her lost brother Chris whilst my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME Resident Evil 4 features RE2’s Leon on a mission to rescue the Presidents Daughter from some surprisingly nimble and utterly frightening, chainsaw wielding Los Ganados, some equally terrifying Los Illuminados cult maniacs as well as some friends from his past. With Capcom promising exclusive apparel and merchandise and other surprises this year, RE fans really are going to have a blast! Hurrah!
