Robot Controlled By Microsoft Kinect

Posted by TurtleGirl On May - 3 - 2011

If I was wandering around a conference hall being followed by a laptop on wheels, I might have to look again. This is a great concept built by Microsoft Research using Robotics Studio, Kinect for Windows SDK, a Kinect, and Roomba. How much fun?!!

The developers showcased this robot at MIX ’11, a conference organized by Microsoft in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, in April. The Kinect was planned as a fancy, but just fun, XBox 360 accessory for controlling video games. However, hackers was quickly able to connect it to a computer and do awesome stuff with it. Controlling robots, scanning rooms, playing air guitars with real sound, drawing with physics and much, much more are just some of the things hackers have been able to do in a short amount of time.
