Nintendo’s next console will be called Wii U and comes with a rather impressive looking controller.
During the Nintendo E3 2011 press conference, the hotly anticipated new console was revealed – sort of. The actual details of the Wii U console were kind of lacking, with only a brief glimpse of the console in the corner of one of the videos. One important point is that the Wii U is backwards compatible. The console is due 2012.
So, most of the info was about the controller itself. Featuring a 6.2″ touchscreen, the controller will have motion control, a speaker, a microphone and a front facing camera. Players will be able to play their games on the big screen, the controller screen where possible, or a combination of both to extend the gameplay experience. Users will also be able to enjoy video chat through the controller and browse the net.
Nintendo confirmed that a new Smash Bros game will be coming to both Wii U and 3DS. Lego City Stories is also in development for both consoles. Third party titles confirmed included: Darksiders 2, Tekken, Batman Arkham Asylum, Ghost Recon Online, Aliens Colonial Marines, Metro Last Light and, perhaps most importantly, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s edge.
