Kart racing – The sport of Kings, and Plumbers.
Mario Kart 3D is the upcoming ninth installment of the much loved Mario Kart Series. While the game remains fundamentally the same as the original go-kart racing game from 1992, there are some differences to be noted for the 3DS version.
The eight playable characters are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Koopa Troopa. Players now have the chance to choose and customize their vehicles; this includes choosing the body and style of their vehicle, even down to the style of their tyres.
Players are also offered the opportunity to try out gliders and propellers for their selected vehicles. These simply pop out the side of your kart and allow you to become airborne for a small amount of time and fly through the skies. This gives you a sense of freedom and a brief break from the track. The karts and tracks are sleek and players will enjoy the beautfiul pictureque landscapes and backdrop enivronments as you steer around each track. Players will encounter backgrounds from Wuhu Island to Donkey Kong Country Returns. The Donkey Kong Country Returns track was filled with Donkey Kong barrels that you could drive into and other such “furniture” from the Donkey Kong world.
Racing against your opponents, players will able to drive across giant flowers and watch from above in the skies to see giant green pipes that tower up above them. Drivng through caverns, players will experience giant purple bats that fly in your direction and swerve you off course. Speed ramps are occassionaly positioned so your vehicle can gain extra speed when driven across and you’ll have to avoid crashing into giant boulders that come hurtling towards you. Players will still be able to find short cuts to overtake other drivers and still be able to use power-ups to try and take out your opponents.
Mario Kart 3DS enables players to experience driving underwater for the very first time. Under the ocean, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find the water filled with green seaweed, bright pink corals, and small fish that want to harm you if you drive close enough. Floating under the water, you’ll catch sight of giant clam shells that hide away gold coins for you to treasure, if you dare drive over them as they will clamp down if you’re not quick enough.
Visually the game looks stunning with some added enhancement through the 3D. The upbeat famous Super Mario Kart music is a constant and positive reminder that you’re playing a game that is well worth your attention as you swerve around each corner, trying to dodge obstacles and ultimately trying to be the best go-kart driver on the Mario Kart 3DS circuit.
Much like Super Mario, Mario Kart 3DS is due for this Christmas season.
