PlayStation Vita is due out in Japan on the 17th December, but it turns out that Sony had originally planned it for an earlier release.
Sony Computer Entertainment president Hiroshi Kawano disclosed that the system was planned for the 3rd December, but later opted for the 17th to ensure they had enough hardware stock for the release. Although a precise number for the system’s shipment was not given, Kawano had previously told Reuters that he expects the first 500,000 systems to sell out quickly. The first 500,000 3G models include 100 hours of free 3G usage. Kawano also emphasized that Vita is a game machine first and foremost, it’s not a smartphone.
