Nintendo Patent Reveals Wiimote TouchPad Accessory
Over the last few days we’ve had an alarming number of patents appearing all over the web. Yesterday’s revealed a Sony patent for a biometrics PS3 handheld and controller, if you were following us.
Today, it seems it’s Nintendo’s turn to take to the stage. Recent reports suggest a Wii remote with a touchpad. A Japanese patent application has been filed today by Nintendo which reveals an accessory you can fix and slide onto a Wii remote and transforms it into a touch pad.
When you touch the pad, an infrared LED switches on and amplifies beams from the LED, which then bounce off a selection of mirrors placed on the controller therefore using the tracking information to form position data. Judging from the patent designs, the remote can be used as the standard Wii remote,if you decide not to activate the touch pad.
