Software Giant Microsoft have taken electrical retailer Comet to court after it was revealed the Comet store had been distributing fake Windows recovery CD’s, claiming the retail store had manufactured more than 94,000 sets of discs, which it then passed off as legitimate CD’s to Comet customers.
Microsoft commented “As detailed in the complaint filed today, Comet produced and sold thousands of counterfeit Windows CDs to unsuspecting customers in the United Kingdom. Comet’s actions were unfair to customers. We expect better from retailers of Microsoft products — and our customers deserve better, too” David Finn, associate general counsel, Worldwide Anti-Piracy and Anti-Counterfeiting, Microsoft.
Comet have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
