After the Resident Evil Anniversary Premier Party Event held in Shibuya, Tokyo, a few additional details and information on Resident Evil 6 were unveiled.
The executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki shared some details. It appears that Capcom have been working on the project in secret for years and that they were now glad to be able to share the news with the general public. Resident Evil 6 boasts the largest number of employees in series history. Hirabayashi gave a specific figure of around 150 people, but noted that some were overeseas and addtional staff would bring the number to 600 staff. Kobayashi said that the game is to be the ‘ultimate horror entertainment‘. Two key concepts were mentioned.
Kobayashi also stated that the zombies have finally returned to the series with Resident Evil 6 and that there would be many secrets surrounding the zombies. Zombies aren’t the only one taking center stage in the game, and shared a picture of the ‘Javo’ creature, but did not provide further details. He teased that it is a shocking existence that has even greater impact than the zombies. Kobayashi also mentioned the abillity to play as Leon and Chris and that there would be a third male character lead. He did not go into further details of the character or name, but shared this image describing the main character as ‘the man who’s told to save the world’.
Resident Evil 6’s storyline starts in America as the President makes an official statement declaring a bioterror and Raccoon City incident, when he himself becomes transformed into a zombie following the attacks. Leon will be at the President’s side during these attack incidents. He and a girl called Helena Harper end up travelling together. Helena had been on security detail for the president. In the meantime, Chris is working a bioterror case in China. He and Leon’s stories will progress simultaneously.
After the Resident Evil presentation, Kobayashi and producer Masachiko Kawata took to the stage to introduce Resident Evil: Revelations following a live demonstration of Raid Mode by the game’s director and assistant producer, kawata revealed one bit of new Revelations information. Raid Mode has four unlockable rare weapons. Kobayashi also detailed special Resident Evil themed sunglasses from Recs, Resident Evil apparel and other merchandise.
