Minecraft creator Markus Persson, aka Notch has distributed almost 3 million dollars in dividends to his employees at Mojang. With 25 employees within the company, it roughly works out at just under $120,000 per person according to Gamesbeat.
Notch announced in a recent Tweet:
“Before tax, my dividends from Mojang for 2011 was about three million dollars. I chose to distribute that to the other employees.”
Dividends are payments made by the company to shareholders from its profits. This means that Markus Persson, rather than simply take money paid to him by Mojang, he gave it to his employees.
Carl Menneh, who works at Mojang, Tweeted expressing his gratitude:
“Tonight at the 5M party @notch gave away all his dividends to the Mojang employees. Thanks to him, this is the best company in the world.
On the Minecraft forums it shows that Minecraft has raked in around $100 million in revenue to date. It also shows that Minecraft has over 23 million registered users.
