MMOFPS game Dust 514, which is due to be exclusively available on the PlayStation 3 is going to be completely free to play and download. CCP, the game maker decided it was going to originally charge a price for gamers to download the title from PSN, but those plans had been scrapped.
Dust 514 is built on a freemium model, where players can literally download the game for absolutely free, but as soon as players needed extra features it would be a paid for by in-game service handing over some cash. Players would usually be charged around $10 to $20, which would have then been converted into the in-game currency, so at least gamers weren’t paying for the game, but would be forced to invest some cash on extra features.
The recent interview held with CCP executive producer Brandon Laurino quoted saying the following. “It was a relatively confusing proposition,” executive producer Brandon Laurino explained to Eurogamer, “and we wanted to make it unambiguous that this is a free-to-play game.”
