SEGA Japan announced today Phantasy Star Online 2 will be free to download and play, but you’ll need to pay for extra in-game content for items. A smartphone version will be coming to iOS and Android.
The PC and Vita versions of the game will offer cross platform play, while the smartphone version will just share data with the two versions and offer social game elements. The PC version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will be arriving first, with a planned service in the summer. The smartphone version will arrive in Winter 2012. The Vita version isn’t expected until Spring 2013.
