We Sing Pop!

Posted by GG Goblin On March - 30 - 2012

Singing gets totally poptastic!

Well, the Nordic Games team seem to have done it again. They are an unstoppable force when it comes to releasing We Sing titles, and this time they have hit karaoke gold with a selection of classic pop tunes that are sure to not only get the wannabe singers warbling to their hearts content, but also have any onlookers leaping to their feet and breaking into dance.

This collection of fan favorite pop tunes, with 30 great songs to sing to, cover the last six decades with tracks such as Rolling In The Deep by Adele and Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet making sure that all ages of pop taste are kept interested. The majority of the songs, like Bad Romance by Lady Gaga and Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, will be well known by most players of the game, although we all know that sometimes the actual words are not what we perhaps remember them to be. But not knowing the words won’t be a problem as, in the same way as all of the previous We Sing titles, the words are displayed on-screen, so even the more obscure songs, Unorthodox by Wretch 32 for example (which is at least obscure to me), can be enjoyed with confidence.

Fans of the We Sing series will know exactly what to expect here, but for those who have yet to unleash their inner pop diva, the game is fairly straight forward.

Players simply grab a microphone and then try to sing along with their chosen song, matching the pitch in order to get the big points. There are a bunch of different modes to play through, and the game supports up to four players. There is even a lesson mode available for those who take their party-based crooning far too seriously. With a whole bunch of releases using this same core engine, Nordic Games know that it is solid and works really well.

So, nothing has really changed except the track list. In the same way as the previous themed We Sing titles, We Sing Pop’s appeal will come down to the musical taste of the player. That being said, the selection of songs in this package offer broader appeal than those of the Rock and even the UK Hits offerings and would make a great addition to any We Sing library.

Without the option of buying individual tracks from an online store, We Sing fans would have trouble keeping their singing sessions fresh were it not for these song packs. They offer good value compared to some other singing games and the fact that you can purchase these packs with or without the microphones ensures that newcomers who have taken a shine to the particular songs offered here do not need to shell out for the hardware separately.

Whilst the other consoles have their own singing game offerings, the Wii is undoubtedly the king of the casual and party games, and if singing is your guilty pleasure at parties, then the We Sing titles are the cream of the crop. It is almost impossible to say that one of the titles is better than another in the series, if you are not taking personal music taste in consideration, but pop music is the genre of choice for the vast majority of Karaoke kings and shower-based singers alike, ensuring that We Sing Pop will have something that will please everyone.

Looking at the game from a value for money perspective, We Sing Pop does have fewer tracks than than the last couple of releases. However, it also manages to pack in more generally recognisable songs than any of the other packages. As always, it comes down to musical taste, but We Sing Pop is guaranteed to get your party moving and will be a great addition to your We Sing library.
