Gala Networks Europe have released a new update for their free-to-play MMORPG Allods Online.
The New Horizons update brings with it new features and content, including a new mercenary system, new step on The Path of the Great quest chain, new mode Smugglers War, eight new allods, a ‘quick start’ client and player referral bonuses.
The mercenaries in New Horizons for Allods Online allow characters over level 8 to hire mercenaries for their party using in-game gold. The mercenaries come in six different classes, each with unique and highly useful special abilities and buffs. Hired mercenaries are set to the same character level as the player and will take up a party slot while obeying the player’s orders for a single instance or allod. The mercenaries will also take a share of the low-quality loot in each drop, and if dismissed or killed during an instance can be re-hired for free, but will disband from the player’s party once the instance has been completed. The classes are; the Protector ‘meat-shield’ tank who can draw enemy attacks away from the party, the Fighter melee specialist who increases physical damage for the entire party, the magical damage-buffing Warlock, the healer Physician who can lift curses and poison effects, the mana and energy-boosting, ranged attack Shooter and finally the area-of-effect enemy de-buff specialist Witch, who also buffs the maximum stamina, mana and energy pools for the entire party.
In New Horizon’s Astral Space content, players will have the chance to participate in exciting trade wars between factions and go on a quest to create their very own allod. Smugglers’ War sees players getting the chance to become a spacefaring privateer for their faction, with the 4th layer of Astral Space filled with ten Allods that continually produce certain types of resources needed on other allods. With the League and the Empire sharing two allods apiece, the remaining six ‘producing’ allods are up for capture by players, setting the stage for Astral vessels to ship resources to where they’re needed, or battle for control of the independent allods and the resources they produce in a dynamic and persistent zone where the players control how the zone changes. With daily quests to set players various tasks, Smuggler’s War adds yet another deep and rewarding chunk of content for Astral vessel owners.
The Path of Greatness is the next step for high-level players towards owning their very own allod in Astral Space. In previous updates, the greatest of Allods Online players have been amassing materials to begin construction of their own Astral allods. With the arrival of New Horizons, the moment these elite forces have been waiting for has finally arrived, their allods have finally taken shape. When building custom allods, players can choose one of three different environment types – jungle, arctic, or desert, and once created a player can also begin constructing a personal tower of their own. The allod also acts as a kind of personal farm for its owner, generating valuable resources – like efficient upgrading reagents that can be collected 3 times weekly to improve gear, or daily gold rewards given for activities taking no more than half an hour per day to complete.
The new instanced allods in New Horizons come in some unique flavours. Including an underwater world and another inspired by the WW2 battle for Stalingrad, each of the eight new allods feature their own lore and new bosses complete with new battle strategies and mechanics. In addition to the brand new instances, the Tropical Atoll ‘holiday destination’ has been improved for the last month of summer with more frequent events, new prizes and new costumes for all who visit it to play mini-games and bask in the tropical sun. Those who have already enjoyed the fruits of the summer hotspot will be happy to know that these prizes include a brand new summer mount: the Tropicana Wolf.
The referral system is set to start shortly after New Horizons goes live. Existing players that successfully invite their friends to join Allods Online will have the opportunity to earn an exclusive set of goodies including beautiful costumes and mounts alongside a set of unique animated vanity items as rewards. There’s also a selection of some of the most popular goods from the boutique available as well, including potions and re-specialisation items. Those invited to play are rewarded with special gifts as well, including a one of a kind costume, a larger inventory, and scrolls which boost experience and reputation gains for every character created.
New Horizons also brings improvements to established players with an extensive revamp of two of the most popular archetypes: the Paladin and the Psionicist. Players with these characters will see a significant power boost in terms of damage and their ability to control the battlefield and, along with all characters over level 15, will enjoy 7 days of unlimited specialisations to learn the best ways to take advantage of the new changes.
Additionally, the most popular interface addition from the previous update has had a massive upgrade. Automove, which allows players to automatically navigate to certain locations without players steering their character, will now allow players to set any map node as a destination, including banks, merchants, teleporters and other important locations. Players will also be able to automatically take to their mounts while en-route, without having to open the interface’s stable menu. The tweaks to automove had been requested by the majority of users in the latest community survey and have been implemented in record time by the Allods Online development team, showing a real dedication to community feedback.
