iControlPad 2 – The open source controller needs Your Support

Posted by TurtleGirl On September - 17 - 2012

Craig Rothwell, Michael Weston, Michael Mrozek, Mark Linkhorst, Dave Cancilier, Jacquelyn and Debs all have one thing in common. They’ve all spent the last ten years in the technology industry and need your help on Kickstarter. In the past they have worked on a selection of projects from OpenPandora, iControlpad, and GP2X &GP32 and much more.

They teamed together their knowledge and gadget know-how to create the world’s first open source controller called the iControlPad2. What you’re looking at in these latest released photographs is the world’s first open source controller for any device.

This fully user programmable microcontroller has a 55 key QWERTY keyboard with shoulder buttons, twin analogie nubs and a high quality D-Pad. It will work with a standard keyboard, joystick for anything with either a bluetooth or USB connection and the battery lasts an incredible 14 hours of active use on a single charge.

Impressed? you should be. The iControlPad2 is not tied to phones or tablets. It is designed to be used with anything from your Raspberry Pi, Dev-board or USB Stick computer, to Robots, hobby projects, PC, Mac, bare PCBs/Motherboards, and set-top boxes.

Key areas in detail:

Emulation: With the iControlPad2 you can enjoy proper computer emulation on your phone or tablet. Imagine Amiga/C64/PC/ZX Spectrum/Atari/Amstrad all with complete Keyboard, Mouse and Joystick emulation on one small controller; not to mention amazing support for almost any console emulator.

Unrivalled control set: A full QWERTY keyboard, digital D-Pad, 2 analogue nubs, 4 face buttons, Start, Select and 2 shoulder buttons. Everything you  need in a compact device – it’s the same size as an iPhone4.

No need for App support: The iControlPad2 will work with almost any app, whether it supports it or not. Thanks to new overlay software, you can map the iControlPad2 controls and keys to screen presses in iOS or Android. Just map your favorite app and start playing; you will be amazed at the advantage real controls give you. See the video for a demonstration

Currently they have 425 backers at the time of posting and have managed to gain $41,942 of support with just 26 days to go.
