If you haven’t already grabbed the excellent Guacamelee! from DrinkBox Studios, which is now available on PSN for PS3 and Vita, then you had better watch this launch trailer.
Set in and around a small village in Mexico, Guacamelee! is an action-packed, 2D brawler/platformer that alternates between the worlds of the living and the dead. Inspired by Mexican folklore, players take control of a down-on-his luck wrestler named Juan Aguacate, as he fights through hordes of undead enemies and skeleton henchmen to stop the evil Carlos Calaca from gaining ultimate power by sacrificing the beautiful “El Presidente’s Daughter.”
“As an independent studio we’re lucky enough to be able to take risks and get creative with our game design,” said Graham Smith, Co-Founder of DrinkBox Studios. “With Guacamelee!, we wanted to blur the boundaries between combat and platforming, all while giving players a vibrant setting inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. We’re really excited with the way the game turned out and thrilled with the response we have had so far from our fans and the gaming press.”
While on a quest to save “El Presidente’s Daughter,” Guacamelee! has players smash, grab and pile drive enemies into a pulp as they travel through alternate dimensions, including “The World of the Living” and “The World of the Dead.” The game offers luchadores cross-save support between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems, as well as cooperative play for same-screen multiplayer throughout the entire story on PlayStation 3.
