Nintendo’s Kyoto-based HQ have announced that Club Nintendo in Japan has been hacked. The Club Nintendo reward website was flagged, when it became apparent to Nintendo that a large number of access errors began appearing on the 2nd July. During the alert an investigation took place and Nintendo acknowledged that 23,000 unauthorized log-ins with 15 million attempts had compromised the system between June 9th and July 4th on the Japan website.
In Japan, it’s possible that Club Nintendo members’ full names, home addresses, phone numbers, and mail addresses were compromised. Currently, Nintendo is strengthening its security. Old passwords are currently invalid, and Nintendo is asking Club Nintendo members to change their passwords via email.
