Flotsam Launches To Early Access

Posted by GG Goblin On September - 26 - 2019

The recycling town builder from Pajama Llama is launching into early access today on Steam, Humble, GoG, Itch.io and Kartridge, priced at £19.99.

Following a very successful presence at gamescom 2019 where Flotsam was awarded the Indie Arena Booth “Best Unity Game” and a long phase of Alpha testing, the studio is now proud to finally share their game with the general public, as it sets sail for Early Access. Flotsam swam its way into development originally four years ago, when the studio was founded in 2015.

“We’ve set out on this journey as a small boat trying to make big waves. When you all paddle along, the waves will be even more exciting. We hope to see you in Early Access.” Co-Founder and Project Manager Juda-ben Gordier says. “From the very beginning we felt that publicly sharing our game would be a great bonus. Early Access enables us to involve you in the development and create an ever richer experience. Town builders and flooded worlds are particularly suited for this process. Become a drifter and help us salvage this polluted scrap and garbage into a beautiful town!”

The cheerful but post-apocalyptic universe of Flotsam couldn’t be more in line with current events as it puts the focus on survival in a world taken over by oceans. The player will have to get creative and create a floating village by recycling the trash found in the sea, all whilst keeping the village inhabitants healthy by collecting rainwater and fish.

But hunger and thirst are not the only dangers of the vast ocean, as players steer their towns to explore the dynamic environments around them. Crossing the oceans will have them face dangerous creatures from beyond the deep, visitors with unknown intentions and mysterious ruins and wreckages.

The game is set to stay in Early Access for a year, with the full release being on the horizon no sooner than 2020. Pajama Llama plans to build Flotsam as a completely replayable experience, with an ever-changing world, new biomes to travel to and more varied landmarks. Always keeping player feedback in mind, the plan is to enrich this world with more ways of interacting with the different landmarks and their inhabitants, with multiple options of salvaging, scouting and traveling the world and ways of using resources.
