PDP Gaming Little Wireless Controller

Posted by GG Goblin On December - 2 - 2020

PDP’s Wireless Switch Controller Options: Part Two.

The second of PDP Gaming’s officially licensed products we are looking at is the Little Wireless Controller. And yes, it is just as cute as it sounds.

Shape-wise, the Little Wireless Controller is similar to the original SNES controllers, albeit with a lot more going on. It is indeed small, but not so small as to create the same sort of problems that playing complex games on a single Joy-Con would create. The colour scheme is far better than the previous review, with a darker grey on the top, and a satisfying purple on the underneath. The d-pad and thumb stick bases are also purple, while the buttons and thumb stick caps are black. It is also nice and light, making it perfect from travelling with.

The lay out of the buttons mimics the Pro Controller, with the left thumb stick being placed above the d-pad, and the right stick below the ABXY buttons. The function buttons, + – Home and Screenshot sit comfortably at the top of the face. Along the top edge, the ZL and ZR buttons have a trigger shape, while the L and R buttons are much thinner, but protrude beyond ZL and ZR so the fingers can distinguish which is which with ease.

That top edge also houses the button to sync the Little Wireless Controller with the Switch, which is as easy as it should be, and the USB Type C socket for charging. A short cable is included with the controller, and once charged it is claimed that the Little Wireless Controller will run happily for as much as forty hours. While I can’t testify to that myself, I haven’t had to put the controller back on charge yet, which is a good sign.

When it comes to use, it really depends on what the user is expecting. This is a perfectly functional controller that, while missing functions such as rumble, is enjoyable to use. Players used to larger controllers will find it takes a little getting used to, although it can at least be held without the hands touching on the rear, unlike a single Joy-Con. Also, the flat rear feels awkward. Smaller hands would be much more suited for this controller, which makes sense. The reality is that the controller works exactly how it should outside of how it feels. All of the buttons have a quality feel and click nicely, and the thumb sticks feel natural under the thumbs.

The quality of the Little Wireless Controller is without question, and it is one of the cutest controllers I have ever seen. The smaller size is perhaps not ideal for lengthy session with complex games, but for lighter gaming, gaming on the go, or even for the little hands of children, I would have no trouble recommending the Little Wireless Controller, and the lengthy battery life is just a bonus.

 ★★★★★★★★½☆
